City life is becoming the norm for the majority of the human population. In fact, most of humanity now lives in a city. Cities bring opportunity for creativity and wealth because the frequency and intensity of human contact fosters exchange of ideas and collaborations that are harder to muster up in non-urban areas. Eco-planning and gentrification have made city life more desirable. While the quality of life in a modern city may be quite high, there are still some stresses that go along with city life that can cause mental health issues. Over-crowding, lack of free space, lack of nature, areas of poor sanitation, and having to deal with a multitude of personalities can all cause mental over-load leading to psychological symptoms.
Please feel free to contact Dr. Berger if you are in need of counseling or psychiatric care. Aside from his long experience in Japan, Dr. Berger has experience treating persons from the following cities: London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Jakarta, Katmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Mexico City, Mumbai, Munich, New Delhi, Oslo, Prague, Rio de Janeiro, Baghdad, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Jerusalem, Kabul, Karachi, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Detroit, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, New York, Miami, Phoenix, Washington D.C., Seattle, Toronto, Vienna, Vancouver, Seoul, Tehran.
Counseling Approach
Dr. Berger strives to create a friendly and compassionate atmosphere in his counseling style that has an eclectic approach to psychotherapy. This means that a balance of the different major types of therapy (cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, supportive, group psychotherapy, and others) is employed to fit with what each individual requires in order to achieve the goals set in the counselling sessions.
Sometimes an illness like severe depression or anxiety may require medication in order to allow talk therapy to jump-start. Dr. Berger has considerable experience in using psychiatric medications and keeps up to date with the many medications used in Western countries that are not yet available in many other countries. Dr. Berger can provide you with information and recommendations regarding psychiatric medication. It may be possible for Dr. Berger to help guide medications you may receive from a Dr. in your country, or alternatively, Dr. Berger can arrange for you to have an on-line or phone meeting with a Japanese physician he works with in Japan. This Japanese physician can then post you a prescription for medications that Dr. Berger recommends in English, and you can order this medication from an overseas export pharmacy if the country you reside in allows personal imports (you would need to confirm the latest regulations in your country).
The Therapy Approach page has detailed descriptions of some of the therapies mentioned here.
